Transient Luminescence | Public Installation

Assembly Point, City of Naarm/Melbourne

2021

Hong Kong and Melbourne based artist Miranda Smith presents Transient Luminescence, a series of ephemeral light ‘paintings’.  Existing in a state of continual  flux, these ‘paintings’ will seem to change in appearance and visibility, with shifts in light and weather conditions in the city.  The artwork experienced during the day will be greatly different to the saturated lights experienced in the dark. Time spent with these light ‘paintings’ reveals the extent of their dynamic nature. Their compositions fluctuate and expand as your visual system contemplates the subtle variations within the colourful lights. Smith explores perception, temporal encounters, and affect theory, placing her oscillating artworks in public space to be experienced by all, creating  moments of gentle surprise when transiting through the city streets.
